NSIP is a full-time, eight-week training program that provides a combination of classroom and on-the-job training in a New York City homeless shelter or supportive housing facility.

Gain the skills and experience to begin your career working with homeless New Yorkers as a Residential Aide or Maintenance Worker

Work with dedicated professionals who will guide you through the program, help place you in employment, and create a plan for career advancement
High School Diploma/Equivalency Required

Information about the internship:
About the Training Program:
Interns will complete approximately 140 classroom hours and 140 internship hours to prepare for entry level human service employment
Interns will learn to better assist clients with Mental Illness, Addiction, and Homelessness issues
Intensive job training will be provided in:
Crisis Prevention Certification • Conflict Management
Computer Training • Incident Reporting
Maintaining Boundaries • Narcan Training
Fire Guard F-02 certification • Mental Health First Aid

Interns will be trained in the following positions:
Residential Aide – The Residential Aide is responsible for assisting the clients in learning and performing their daily life skills activities as well as adhering to their program activities and objectives.
Maintenance Staff – Maintenance staff provide a clean and safe environment to the residents of the shelter by maintaining the facility including the sleeping areas, kitchen, restrooms, stairwells, and all public areas.

Program Schedule: 35 hours per week for eight weeks
Weeks 1-2: Hybrid Classroom training only, every weekday (Monday-Friday)
Weeks 3-5: Three work days + two classroom training days
Weeks 6-8: Four work days + one classroom training day
Interns will be paid minimum wage for work hours (up to 147 hours)

Qualifications:
Must be 18+ and legally able to work in the United States
High School Diploma/Equivalency required
Required open and flexible schedule
Ability to work weekends, holidays, overnights
Ability to lift 50+ lbs (equivalent to carrying four bags of heavy groceries)
Ability to climb 6 flights of stairs
Exceptional customer service skills and ability to think critically
