Citrin Cooperman is seeking a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Senior Accountant. We are a growing nationally recognized full service accounting, tax, and consulting firm. We are ranked 22nd largest accounting firm in the US with 1,350 partners and staff and 17 locations.
Citrin Cooperman’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) practice specializes in providing ongoing finance operations, decision support, and special finance projects to middle market companies. This position will act as an outsourced senior accountant for our clients, working under the direction of a Manager or Director on specific client accounts, to provide efficient and reliable finance operations, use their financial results to advise on their business, and evaluate opportunities to improve processes and technology to help them grow and make better strategic decisions.
Responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Perform the day-to-day accounting operations of our clients including managing the general ledger, payables, receivables, payroll, collections, and financial reporting
- Follow and help improve our internal procedures, processes, and controls
- Run technology onboarding activities, take ownership of specific pieces of technology, and research technology solutions to solve specific operational challenges
- Work with both onshore and offshore staff on an ongoing basis to collaborate on performing and in some cases manage the performance of transactional activities, technical accounting activities, and synthesize data into reports or analysis for the clients
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements
- Manage communications with vendors, customers, partners, shareholders, banks, and other interested parties for each client
- Manage journal entries, reconciliations, and coordinating the overall effort for the monthly and annual closing processes
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
- Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
- Onboard new clients to technology solutions including accounting packages, ERP solutions, billing and receivables solutions, and other related tools
- Convert customers to new accounting systems and perform cleanup activities on clients’ books and records
- Advise and assist with technical accounting decisions
- Interact with clients to assist with ad-hoc requests
The ideal candidate must have:
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills and is highly effective in developing trusted relationships in person, over video and/or phone, and through written communications
- Proven experience as a senior accountant or other similar position in either a corporate setting or another BPO practice
- Experience in several different industries – professional services, manufacturing, construction, tech startups, and healthcare are particularly valued
- Strong technical accounting knowledge in several key areas. Of particular value are costing (product and service), revenue recognition standards, supply chain and inventory accounting, government contract compliance, and not-for-profit accounting including grants and compliance reporting
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes and of the structure necessary to run them efficiently and effectively (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
- Knowledge and experience of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
- Experience with multiple accounting systems which could include Quickbooks, Xero, Dynamics, NetSuite, Intacct, and other middle-market accounting and ERP packages
- Expert in Excel
- Well-organized with ability to prioritize
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a relevant field is preferred
- Experience participating in an ERP implementation is a plus
- Professional certification (e.g. CPA) is a plus
