Assistant Project Engineer

Employment Type: Contract

Position Summary

The Assistant Project Engineer supports power generation and infrastructure projects by performing project coordination, financial tracking, contract administration, and project management activities under the supervision of Project Engineers.

This role supports projects throughout the complete lifecycle, including initiation, scoping, design, construction, and closeout. The Assistant Project Engineer will coordinate with internal teams, external contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders to maintain accurate project information and help ensure work is completed according to scope, schedule, budget, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare project plans, risk registers, contractor and consultant award memoranda, purchase requisitions, scopes of work, scopes of services, and project governance documents.
  • Develop contract documents and gather accounting information for new contracts and change orders.
  • Prepare contract award and change-order memoranda to authorize funding and update contract validity dates.
  • Attend project health and status meetings and provide updates related to schedules, costs, risks, and overall project progress.
  • Maintain accurate and current project schedules, financial information, status reports, and documentation.
  • Forecast and verify project budgets and stakeholder resource requirements.
  • Coordinate regularly with Project Controls to update budgets, forecasts, costs, and variances.
  • Track monthly invoices and prepare project financial accruals.
  • Coordinate internal and external reviews of submittals and Requests for Information through project management software such as Procore.
  • Maintain comment logs and follow up with reviewers and project stakeholders to ensure comments are addressed and closed.
  • Develop and maintain project action-item lists and review outstanding items with project teams.
  • Accept responsibility for assigned action items and follow up with stakeholders through completion.
  • Help ensure licensing, environmental, permitting, safety, code compliance, and construction requirements are incorporated into project plans and designs.
  • Support coordination and engagement among internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and external project partners.
  • Assist with reviewing technical documents, specifications, drawings, forecasts, variance reports, schedules, and contracts.
  • Support Project Engineers with schedule management, contract administration, project assurance, and other ongoing project activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Preferred engineering disciplines include civil, environmental, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
  • Ability to understand technical engineering information and communicate it clearly in written and verbal correspondence.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, including document cross-referencing and indexing.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, PivotTables, and professional charts.
  • Ability to manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, invoices, and other financial information.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, documentation, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple assignments, stakeholders, deadlines, and project priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience in engineering, construction management, project administration, or a related role.
  • Experience with project or construction management platforms such as Procore.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or another enterprise resource planning system.
  • Experience using purchase-order systems to track project costs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 for schedule development and management.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification, or the ability and interest to obtain one.
