Austin is a healthcare manager with the Hampton Roads Health System. With four hospitals and eighteen clinics in the system, Austin’s day is always busy, ranging from hospital staffing decisions to meetings with physicians and hospital executives to handle issue resolution.

>> My name is Austin B. Frazier Junior. I work for the Bon Secours Health System in their Revenue Cycle Division as Manager for the Hampton Roads Health System. So Bon Secours is a non-profit, Catholic health system based on the eastern coast. It's about $3.5 billion in revenue total. And my particular division has about four hospitals, 18 ancillary clinics, and a number of physician practices that are involved with it. Approximately $1.3 billion is under my operations and what my shop is taking care of. And we service all types of patients from inpatient, outpatient surgery, diagnostics which are EDs, radiology, laboratory services, and, again, physician practices. As a manager in this organization, it's dynamic. Your day could be anywhere between staffing issues, meetings with different hospital executives, meeting with physicians to kind of resolve some troubling issues, augmentation, revenue cycle, finance, all types of different things. So the day is very much open if you will, filled with meetings, filled with a lot of to do lists. Email checking is pretty much a constant and a little bit of travel as well because I live in the Richmond market, but as I said I am over the Hampton Roads Health System. So I have to travel down to the Norfolk, Virginia Beach area often. My office is located in a hospital. And, again, I have connections with all the different physicians there. So my direct responsibility is over the revenue cycle. So that includes all the finance that comes into the hospital, cash generation, quoting and billing of medical records that go out, claims management, denials, contract management, etcetera. So a typical meeting we might have is a weekly revenue cycle meeting where we discuss any troubling issues, denial accounts, things that need to be resolved, if the insurance company is denying a claim for whatever particular reason we have to go about trying to figure out how to get the hospital the finance or the reimbursement that they're looking for.
