Jenny is the Editor of Statesboro Magazine, a magazine that “highlights the people, places, and things you want to know in the greater Statesboro area through local stories that often blend the history of the area into profiles of the dynamic people who make-up the community today.”

>> My name is Jenny Fauss [phonetic] and I'm the Editor of Statesboro Magazine. Our magazine is an economic development piece. We showcase the best things about Statesboro and we hope that will draw businesses and business to our town and make it better in the future. I have no typical days. There's something new every day at the magazine, but each day we try to do our editorial of course. We have [inaudible] photographs that we have to take of people that we've interviewed. We have cover shoots we have to do. There are a lot of civic events that we're a part of. We go to different meetings and we serve on boards. We're on the board of the Statesboro [inaudible] in the past, and now I'm on the board of the Arts Center. So there are a lot of meetings in town. And a lot of extracurricular activities, you know, banquets and receptions and things like that, that you have to attend with the magazine to cover the town and everything that's going on. Well, I've been Statesboro fortunately for quite a while, so I know a lot of the back story and history of the town. And I know -- can understand and see the new, unique things that are coming out too. So we try to weave the story of Statesboro itself into the story of the lives of the people that we interview and showcase. Yes, we have a very, small staff. So we have an idea and we can the next day start on it and locate the person that we decided is of interest and might be to our readers. And set up an interview with them. And then we go talk to them and [inaudible] a while with them in their home or their business or talking about whatever made them special to us. And then after that's finished, we set up a photo shoot with them and we go back and photograph them and learn more about their actual, you know, job or whatever it is that they're doing. Every story we run is great because Statesboro's so full of unique and great things. If I had to pinpoint just one, we just had the -- a festival that the magazine helped found. We partnered with the Department of Writing and Linguistics to bring Statesboro the right, to W-R-I-T-E, place here. And we envision Statesboro is to be the right place year round because we have great authors and writers that come from this area. And recently we were able to bring Rick Bragg [phonetic] to be our headliner in conjunction with writing linguistics. Since that's the only freestanding writing department in the State of Georgia, we want to showcase it as a place that future authors can come from. So we hope to have them come here and sign books and have workshops and things like that, to help the students [inaudible] partner.
