Maria is a Financial Officer for Penn State University. Reporting to the University’s Controller’s office, Maria oversees the operating budget for two, major Penn State campuses.

>> I'm Maria Zaccardo, and I currently work for Penn state. I report to the controller's office, but I am located in Philadelphia, and I oversee the operating budgets for two campuses, Great Valley and Brandywine. The day of a financial officer is varied. One of the challenges in the position is we can work at a very strategic level, reporting directly to the president of the campus, the chancellor, and being involved in senior management decisions, but we also work down in the weeds as well. Which is overseeing that financial policies adhere to, in our units, reviewing expense reports, and dealing with funding budgets, and trending expenses. I do travel to state college for retreats, and also to meet with my manager who is, actually resides in [inaudible] and I travel between the two campuses. I have two offices, and that's pretty interesting, because Great Valley is a graduate campus and Brandywine is undergraduate, so there's two very different business models.
