Maria is a recruitment researcher with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Her main role is that of a recruit: visit college campuses and find the best talent to bring into the organization. She advises interested students to seek degrees in Higher Education Management in order to get a better understanding of how students interact with professionals.

>> My name's Maria Gerardi. And, I am a recruitment researcher for PPMC in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. My job is to go out on college campuses and find people to bring in PPMC. So I get them excited, I tell them more about our company. And then, hopefully, I recruit them into one of our internship opportunities or full time roles. So, my days are never the same. Sometimes, I'm in the office working on offer letters or phone screening or review and resumes. And then, other days, I'm on campus, I could be at a career fair, I could be at an information session, I could be doing presentations. So, it's really nice. I like that I get a mixed experience and that I get to interact with people all across Western PA and further than that sometimes. So, I usually like to try and figure out who they are first. So, I'll introduce myself, saying my name and what I do. And then, I always ask them to tell me a little bit more about yourself because I feel like you can't really relate with someone until you get to know them. So, for me to effectively do my job, it's really important that I understand things that you've done in the past, what your passions are, where you see yourself in the future. And then, at that point, I can really help you get the job that you're looking for. My schedule's a little random. It depends on where I am. So, if I'm traveling, I might go into work at 10 in the morning or even later and I might work until 11:00 at night. But then, if I'm in the office, I typically go in around 7:30 8 in the morning and work a 9 to 5 schedule or I guess it would be 7:30 to 5. But, it just typically depends on the season. So, in the Spring we're a little bit slower than we are in the Fall and in the Fall it's not unusual to work 12 hour days.
