You can do it! This is the mindset you need to have when thinking about careers. Understand that choosing a career path will feel uncertain but that is completely normal. No matter your major or academic year (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, grad), you should always commit to exploring — future you will thank you!

It is never too early (or late) to start. The earlier you begin, the more confident and prepared you will feel by the time you graduate. The good news is, you do not need all the answers right now. You just need a starting, or continuing point. And chances are, you probably know more than you think, and have more skills & experiences than you give yourself credit for. Maybe there was a class in high school you loved, a family friend with a job you always found interesting, a project you were proud of, or a volunteer experience that felt meaningful. Think about experiences you have enjoyed and want to explore more. Think about what you did not enjoy and want to avoid. Those are all clues.

Use the “Explore Your Career Path” dropdown above to research the range of career paths you can explore. You should also look at opportunities on Handshake, attend Mercy events, join clubs, watch career videos below, or consider on campus opportunities like Federal Work Study, etc. Finding your path is a lot like finding your favorite snack. You have to test a few options before you know what really fits and what you really like. Be patient but be intentional. Every experience teaches you something. Most importantly, don’t forget, connect with a career coach so you have support along the way. You do not have to figure this out alone. Happy exploring 😊 – this is a potentially uncomfortable, but exciting time!
