What is YAI?

YAI: Seeing Beyond Disability is an organization dedicated to supporting people in the Intellectual and Developmental Disability Community.  Today, they serve over 20,000 people and have a team of over 4,000 employees.  With locations in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and New Jersey, they are deeply rooted in our area helping tens of thousands of people.

Why work for YAI?

I did a little research on Glassdoor.com (a wonderful site for potential employees to see what current or past employees really think of an organization!) and most reviews talked about how rewarding the job was.

Here is my favorite employee review “Great place to work if you’re looking for a career with a purpose. YAI offers a wide range of services for people with disabilities so you feel as though you’re giving back and playing a part in improving people’s lives. Company offers a lot of opportunities to grow. Staff is dedicated to our mission and work very hard to make sure the highest quality services are delivered to the people we support day in and day out. I’m proud to be a member of the management team. We try to make YAI a better place to work every day by asking staff for feedback and putting forward innovative ideas and systems to change the way we do business and help better support each other and those we serve.” – Anonymous

Second favorite review “LOVE IT.  Builds personal growth.  Gain a different mindset.  Amazing overtime.” – Anonymous

Who doesn’t love amazing overtime? And personal growth? Sounds like a pretty great opportunity for a college student who wants to earn money AND make a difference AND get experience in their field of study while in college.
