National Intern Day

Whooo hoooo! It’s time to celebrate because its National Intern Day!!!

July 25th is Intern’s Day created by the company WayUp who believes in honoring and recognizing the “future leaders of the world – INTERNS!!” This does not mean interns around the country have the day off, but it does mean that’s its your time to shine and be celebrated for the work you do or have done through an internship. Interns are a wonderful addition to the workforce because they are often eager to learn more about an industry through hands on exposure and bring with them fresh and innovative ideas. In fact, employers like to see that a student has completed an internship at some point during their college career  and in some cases, internships can turn into full-time jobs. Internships are a great way to explore an industry and pick up new skills along the way.

I am happy to note that MERCY COLLEGE loves its interns too, so much so in fact that we want to get more students doing internships and one way to do this is by offering an INTERNSHIP GRANT! The grant provides students an opportunity to get real world work experience through an unpaid internship while earning money to pay for internship related expenses (i.e. – transportation, professional attire etc.) If you are interested in learning  more about the internship grant, the importance of internships or are searching for an internship, you can meet with a career coach for assistance – schedule an appointment through Handshake today!

WayUp is also looking for companies that are committed to celebrating their interns. If you currently work for or have previously worked with an employer who has celebrated their interns…go ahead and nominate that company to be added to the Top 100 Employer List @ www.nationalinternday.com.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE CURRENT AND FUTURE INTERNS OUT THERE! WE CELEBRATE YOU TODAY!!!!!
