AFB Student Career Peer Mentorship Program

Do you need help with your resume? Are you having a hard time navigating Handshake? Do you know what Handshake is or what it’s used for? Career Peer Mentors are here to help! The Accounting, Finance and Business Advisory Board has mentors in the Career and Professional Development office throughout the week that are available to assist and answer questions on a walk-in basis – no appointment necessary!

How can a career peer mentor help you?

If you’re in need of assistance creating a resume, adding new information to your resume, or applying for jobs or internships, a mentor can assist you with all of these tasks. Mercy University uses the Handshake platform, an online job board, that allows students to search and apply for positions when looking for jobs or internships. With Handshake, you’re able to upload your resume, make appointments with your career coach, and get feedback on your professional documents. A mentor can show you how to do all of these as well as how to access resume and cover letter templates on the Career and Professional Development website. LinkedIn is also a wonderful tool for growing your network, finding open positions, and sharing your professional experiences. If you’re unfamiliar with the social networking platform, a mentor can help you become more comfortable using it.

We are here to help you!

Stop by the Career and Professional Development office located in Main Hall, Room 247A (above the Main Hall Library, Dobbs Ferry) and visit a career peer mentor next semester. If you’re an upperclassman interested in becoming a career peer mentor and sharing your experience with others, connect with Gina Villazhinay and join the Accounting, Finance and Business Advisory Board.  NOW is the time to ask for help, step out of your comfort zone, and make a difference!

The Career Team is also available at the Bronx, Manhattan and New Rochelle campuses. Contact CPD@mercy.edu to schedule and appointment.
