Overview of Dept/Division:
Facilities and Safety is a unit in Field Operations Services’ Division of Service Delivery in the Department of Subways. The unit is responsible for proactively improving conditions in train service personnel’s facilities. It is also the division’s safety focal point ensuring that all safety guidelines in train crew facilities, and in some instances the Right-of-Way, are adhered to. The unit is tasked with ensuring that facilities of train service personnel are in a good state of repair. The unit proposes, is involved in Capital Revolving Funds Project development, and coordinates and Employee Facility Rehabilitation projects.
Project Responsibilities:
The specific projects to which the college aide will be assigned to will be determined based on the current needs of the Facilities & Safety Unit and the skills and interests of the intern. The main responsibilities of the College Aide involve:
– Sketching Emergency Evacuation Plans for employee facilities using MicroStation and Microsoft Visio. Training in the use of the software will be provided if required.
– Participate in developing, managing, and coordinating Capital Revolving Funds and Employee Facility Rehabilitation Projects.
– Conduct visual field inspections of facilities, collect data in the field.
– Under the guidance of supervision, may coordinate with other departments/divisions, vendors, and contractors
Special Qualifications or Background Needed:
MAJORS PREFERRED: Civil Engineering, Project Management, Contract Management, City Planning, Facility Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Human Resources
– A Junior, Senior, or Graduate student level in a preferred major, listed above.
– Skilled at using Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Excel, and Word applications
– Project management skills or the ability to learn to manage projects.
– Knowledge of computer programing languages, database design, web application development, and/or computer aided design (CAD) a plus.
– Knowledge of New York City Transit System and of New York City Geography
– Writing Skills
